Peptide Batch Testing & COA Reports

Use this peptide batch testing guide to review a lot-specific COA or batch report, or define an independent bulk-batch test.

Quick answer

What does peptide batch testing verify?

It verifies only the fields, method, sample and lot scope recorded in the agreed report. HPLC area purity does not by itself prove identity, net peptide content or the status of a different order batch.

01

Ask for lot-matched evidence

Request the item or sequence, lot reference, report date, issuer, method and the result basis for the material under review.

02

Set the comparison rule first

Write the acceptance criteria, missing-field treatment and any remedy or re-test cost scope before payment or sample dispatch.

03

Compare the supply route

Start with the research peptide catalog for a named reference, then use the supplier guide to keep commercial and evidence fields together.

Document or new test

Existing report or a new test?

Choose an available lot-specific COA or HPLC file, or agree a new independent test for a bulk batch. File availability, issuer, report scope and lot linkage are confirmed for each project. For the named material, start with the research peptide catalog; this guide handles the report or test scope.

Compare the two routes. On wider screens, scroll tables sideways if needed.

How to choose between an existing lot file and new independent testing for a bulk batch
Project questionRequest an existing lot fileAgree new independent testing for a bulk batch
Use this route whenYou need to review an available COA or HPLC record against the quoted item, lot and written specification. You need a new test of an identified bulk-batch sample against agreed written criteria.
PrepareProduct or sequence, lot if known, required report fields and destination. State whether you need a current-batch file or want to review an example.Product and batch reference, sample source, independent laboratory, method, test scope, acceptance criteria and destination.
Confirm in writingFile availability, report date and issuer, scope, missing fields and linkage to the project lot.Sample-to-lot linkage, result handling, payment responsibility, failed-batch remedy and any re-test cost scope before payment or dispatch.

Use the documentation route to request an available file; the COA and HPLC review guide explains report fields. For a new test, review the written acceptance and remedy terms first.

Batch report review

What each result establishes.

Check each result against its own written requirement. One passing field does not establish the others.

How to check the scope and limits of a research peptide batch report
Report fieldBuyer checkWhat it does not establish
Lot and sample scopeMatch the item, report number, batch or lot, sample source, test date and report version to the project. Confirm whether the record covers a current batch, historical batch or sample example.A sample or historical COA does not establish the status of a new order batch without documented lot linkage.
IdentityRecord the named identity method, reported result and reference or expected value. Check which written identity requirement it addresses. An HPLC peak-area percentage alone is not complete identity evidence.
HPLC purityCheck the method reference, reported result, units and basis, with the chromatogram or integration record if supplied. Compare the result with a criterion on the same basis.Chromatographic area purity does not establish net peptide content or the amount per vial.
Content or assayRecord the content or assay result, method, units and measurement basis if required. Keep the label or quotation amount separate from the measured result.A stated label amount is not an independent content measurement, and a purity result does not replace an assay.
Missing or unresolved fieldsDistinguish not supplied, test not performed, field not reported, mismatch, and not applicable with a written reason. Ask for clarification when evidence cannot be compared.A blank or unreported field is not a pass. A documented result only supports the scope and criterion actually reviewed.

Use the COA and HPLC review checklist to note missing or unresolved fields. Current-project files and any additional testing require written confirmation.

Worked example: a report for a different lot.

Illustrative training example only. These invented lot identifiers and numbers are not a BioPepSyn Lab COA, product specification or test result. In this example, the order asks for lot EXAMPLE-A, identity evidence, HPLC area purity of at least 98.0% on an agreed method, and a separate content result.

A hypothetical report reviewed against a hypothetical order specification
FieldExample recordReview decision
Lot linkageThe quotation names EXAMPLE-A; the report names EXAMPLE-B.Clarify. Ask for the report covering EXAMPLE-A or documented sample-to-lot linkage. Results for EXAMPLE-B cannot establish the ordered lot.
IdentityThe report has a product label but no identity method or identity result. Not established. Request the agreed identity evidence; the product label and purity percentage do not replace it.
HPLC area purityThe report states 98.5% area purity, without a method reference or integration record. Not yet comparable. Although the number exceeds 98.0%, confirm the agreed method, result basis and supporting record before reviewing that criterion.
Content or amount per vialThe label states 10 mg; no content or assay result is reported. Not established by this report. HPLC area purity does not independently measure the labeled amount or net peptide content.
Report version and issuerA report date and report number appear, but the issuing laboratory is not identified.Clarify the issuer, version and sample details. Keep those fields with the quotation and any replacement report.

Overall decision: request clarification. Do not record a pass for EXAMPLE-A from these fields. Ask for lot linkage, identity evidence, the agreed HPLC method and any required content result. Record unresolved fields in the editable COA review checklist. If a later agreed test fails the written specification, use the batch acceptance and remedy terms.

Method reference: AnaSpec QC testing attributes lists identity, HPLC purity and peptide content as separate analytical attributes. It supports that distinction; it is not evidence that BioPepSyn Lab has performed those tests or holds the supplier's certifications.

Batch testing brief

Agree the scope before testing begins.

For an independent bulk-batch test, record these four items before payment or sample dispatch. Review the written acceptance and remedy terms.

01

Sample and lot

Name the product or reference, quantity and unit, batch, sample source and sample-to-lot linkage. If retention is required, agree the sample identifier, quantity, storage, period and access or re-test arrangements.

02

Laboratory and method

Specify the independent laboratory, test method, report fields, payment responsibility and result handling.

03

Acceptance criteria

Set the written specification and thresholds before testing; state how missing or unmatched fields will be handled.

04

Remedy and costs

Record any refund or replacement route and re-test cost scope. These apply only when confirmed in the written project record.

Testing FAQ

Questions buyers ask before testing.

What should a peptide batch report include?

It should identify the item or sequence, lot, report date, method, stated results and document scope. Check whether it covers a current batch, a historical batch or a sample.

Does a sample COA prove the current order batch?

No. A sample or historical report explains its own format and scope; it does not establish a new order batch unless it is linked to the supplied lot.

Does HPLC purity verify peptide content?

No. HPLC area purity and peptide content or assay are separate results. Confirm the method, units and acceptance criterion required for each field.

What happens if an agreed batch test fails?

A refund or replacement route and any re-test cost treatment apply only when they were agreed in writing for the project before payment or sample dispatch.

Next step

Plan an independent bulk-batch test.

Share the material, sample and requirements. Agree the scope and responsibilities before payment or sample dispatch. For a purchase order, use the B2B procurement brief. For supporting reference material, read the peptide research Knowledge Center.
